Heart on the Sleeve: What time is the right time?
In the words of Albus Dumbledore, “the choices we make
determine who we are”. Much of life is spent in making choices relating to education,
career, marriage and children. In that, man is indecisive only up to a certain
age after which he is expected to make some decisions for himself and determine
his course of life. The upside to that is freedom, but the biggest downside is,
there is no way of knowing what is right and what is wrong unless the thing in
question is tried out and substantial risks have been taken in that regard.
While it is true that man learns from the mistakes of
others, it is also true that man himself has to commit grave errors first, and it
is equally important to understand that man is fallible and susceptible to making
mistakes. That being said, who a person is, is a product of their past experiences,
relationships and feelings. When they decide to take on something new, it is not
just the thought of taking on something new, but these very experiences,
relationships and feelings that they have to channel in a new direction and make
the best use of resources.
In such circumstances, coupled with the COVID situation,
it is very natural to wonder what time is the right time to do something new, something
which has been pending since long and something that our inner voice is constantly
serving as a reminder of being tired with what is going on and which is telling
us to venture into unknown waters. There is no correct answer for such a question,
and there is no right step, but there is the present.
A wise man once said that “once you really know what you
want, your past, origins and your situation cease to matter”. In order to
achieve our heart’s desire, it is first important to know what it is, to come
to terms with it, to understand the manner in which it can affect our lives and
then whole-heartedly accept the situation and begin with the new venture. Moreover,
it is quite germane to maintain the same enthusiasm in achieving the goal
throughout as was expressed at the inception of the desire to achieve it, or to
put it simply; consistency.
The current times are essentially a reminder of being grateful
for whatever we have in hand, but also reminders that life is short and transient
and whenever we feel enslaved by the manner of earning our bread and butter, it’s
time to find something more liberating, creative, aligning with our true
purpose and true calling. Like all good things, true calling comes late, but is
almost always worth the wait.
To all the souls striving to make their own way in the
world, please know that now is as good a time to start as any, for there will
never be a time when you are fully ready.
